The 35th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM)

Representing the President of the Republic, H.E. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Algerian Prime Minister, H.E Sifi Ghrieb chaired the 35th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Friday, February 13, 2026.

During the opening session, the Prime Minister, on behalf of the current Chair of the Forum, the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, H.E Abdelmadjid Tebboune, handed over the rotating chairmanship of the APRM to H.E. Jessica Alupo, representing the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In a speech delivered by the Prime Minister, the President of the Republic expressed his sincere gratitude for the trust placed in Algeria during its two-year tenure as Chair of the Forum, noting that it had been a great honor for Algeria to serve the continent by guiding the Forum's work and contributing to strengthening governance and development in its member states.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed Algeria's full commitment to supporting Uganda throughout its presidency and working alongside the Forum to strengthen cooperation and collective action. He emphasized Algeria's support for peer review processes as a strategic tool for consolidating good governance and strengthening African mechanisms in service of Agenda 2063, highlighting that this tradition of fraternal cooperation will continue to enrich and support the Forum's work under the Ugandan presidency.

The President also expressed his best wishes to the Ugandan President for success in fulfilling this noble responsibility, reiterating Algeria's unwavering commitment to contributing to the success of this African mechanism.

Members of the Mechanism expressed their appreciation and pride in the Algerian President's contributions and commitment to supporting the Mechanism and his continued dedication to promoting development and cooperation in Africa. They affirmed that his efforts have contributed to consolidating the principles of good governance and strengthening the paths of reform and continental integration.
